Which Superman do I prefer: the Original or the New formula?

As Melissa already knows, I prefer the original. As much as I do enjoy the new one it just can't stand up to the original. Aside from that, we'll see how well the movie holds up over the next 25 years. The original Superman was a landmark film in both cinema and my life. I watched Superman quite frequently as a child and I always loved it. There are definitely cases of people liking a movie when they're young and then hating it when they're older. The fact of the matter is your tastes change. Take this for example: I loved the Ninja Turtle movies when I was a young lad. Now that I am older I realize that they are indeed horrible movies. Maybe they were acceptable as a child because I lacked the knowledge that I have now. I know what makes a good movie.

There was a point to that sidetrack. Superman is not one of those movies that was good back in the day and crappy now. Instead that film has only gotten better as the years have gone by. I love it now more than ever. Everything about the film is perfect, well almost everything. The only bad part of the film is the flying sequence with Superman and Lois. Lois has a little inner-monologue wherein she exposes her feelings for Superman. It wouldn't have been so bad if she hadn't rhymed. However, the rest of the movie is amazing. The acting was superb, the writing was superb, the direction was great, the effects were awesome at the time, and the most amazing part of the film was the score. Definitely John Williams' second best score behind Jaws. Let's not forget one very important fact, Hackman was in the original.

As for the new Superman, it was just a bit too long. I've seen it twice now and I've loved it both times. I liked it more the second time. I must admit that Kevin Spacey did just as well as Hackman did playing Lex Luthor. I had my doubts about Spacey being cast in that role, but he was amazingly convincing. Brandon Routh was awesome as Superman. He looked and sounded like Christopher Reeve. All in all it was an awesome movie, just not as good as the original. Like I said, we'll see how it stands the test of time.

So for now the original is on top. The original is the best superhero film ever made...along with Batman Begins.
